PENTAX USA needed to overhaul their flagship web property. My role involved working closely with UX designers and tech leads to create a new site that looked great and functioned effortlessly, creating a great user experience. The site was designed and developed to play nicely on desktop and tablets, and offered a mobile version for users on the go. In addition the site rolled in content from previously separate microsites, including PENTAX Photo Gallery, to offer user-generated photography, tweets, and blog posts for all things PENTAX. The result is a site that is fast, intuitive, inspiring, and infinity sharable, with a big focus on photography lifestyle in addition to great products.

Design

Adobe teamed up with us to create useful Android apps that well, didn’t look like every other app on the market. The reason was to show the powerful capabilities & flexibility of using Flash in the world of mobile apps. I was responsible for first taking Dave Selden’s popular “33 Beers” pocket journal and translating that look and feel into a mobile interface. The result was the 33 Beers app, allowing you to document your favorite brews, take notes, photos and even create a flavor profile.

The second was Finicky, which I designed based on initial conversations with Adobe. “Finicky is an electronic journal for detailing where you found hard to locate items.” The look and feel was based on old moleskin journals – the kind most of us have in our bags or backpacks, full of notes, sketches, tattered edges, and taped in memorabilia.

PENTAX cameras introduced their latest in a long lineage of rugged outdoor cameras – the W90. I worked on a team to help concept and create the campaign to promote the camera – “The Most Adventurous Friend You Know.” The campaign was both digital and traditional, including rich media banners, social, OOH, and traditional media.

Yes Communities is a home manufacturer that was in need of a site makeover. They wanted to make it easier for users to find communities quickly and learn about opportunities in their area, as well as make the site feel more inviting overall. I designed the site to bubble up the idea of what its really like to have a place to call your own, with a new color palette, typography and layout that felt open and inviting for exploration.

What better way to explore what Wyoming has to offer than by seeing it from tourists and locals themselves? The site Road Trip Wyoming was built as part of a campaign to inspire people to plan their own road trip, and discover what the state has to offer. Functioning as a social media aggregator, it pulls Flickr, YouTube, Tweets, and visitors’ stories into an experiential interface that encourages exploration. The social content pulls from specific hash-tags, allowing users to discover less well-known attractions and spaces.

Vail needed a site to promote Olympic champion skier Lindsey Vonn’s journey to the 2010 Winter Games. This was my proposed designs that used a fluid experiential navigation to watch webisodes, peruse pictures and get updates from Lindsey via social channels.
